Fictional recollection The fictional contributors share a decade but not one childhood. Some remember a crowded home, others a quiet one; the same cultural touchstone could carry different meanings. Population patterns and dated objects provide context. The personal accounts show where the pattern fits and where it does not. A generation becomes more recognizable when its differences are allowed to remain. Evidence and source treatment Census records describe population patterns. They are used as context rather than proof that every member of an age group had the same experience. This is an illustrative excerpt with invented personal circumstances.
